Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Julia Letlow and Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici have jointly introduced a resolution to recognize and celebrate National Board Certified Teachers. The resolution also designates a "National Board Certified Teacher Week" and encourages administrators, school districts, and states to support and incentivize the growth of National Board Certified Teachers.

National Board Certification is a voluntary and rigorous process that allows teachers to enhance their teaching skills and demonstrate their effectiveness in the classroom. The certification not only benefits the teachers' careers but also greatly impacts their students' learning outcomes. Studies have shown that students taught by National Board Certified Teachers outperform their peers and benefit from the leadership and mentorship provided by these highly skilled educators. Additionally, Board Certified teachers tend to stay in their profession longer and can accelerate a student's learning by 1 to 2 months of instruction per school year.

Furthermore, research has revealed the long-term benefits of having a National Board Certified mathematics teacher. Students who had such a teacher at least once during their education experienced increased lifetime earnings by $48,000. These findings highlight the importance of recognizing and supporting National Board Certified Teachers.

To further emphasize bipartisan support, U.S. Senators Katie Britt, Martin Heinrich, Cindy Hyde-Smith, and Mazie Hirono have introduced a companion legislation in the Senate. This collaboration underscores the significance of National Board Certification in enhancing the quality of education across the country.

Congresswoman Letlow expressed her admiration for the dedication and commitment of National Board Certified Teachers. She stated, "The dedication it takes to be an educator in any capacity is profound, and teachers who voluntarily opt to become nationally Board Certified are truly exemplary." She commended their efforts in providing a boost to low-income students, with 44% of them teaching in Title I schools, and improving the overall quality of learning. As a mother, Rep. Letlow understands the importance of having good teachers and commended those who hold themselves to high standards.

Congresswoman Bonamici emphasized the positive impact of National Board Certification on students' outcomes. She stated, "National Board Certification for teachers demonstrates a commitment to high standards, which leads to better outcomes for students." She highlighted the benefits that educators gain from enhanced professional learning, additional research, and career advancement opportunities.

Peggy Brookins, the President and CEO of the National Board, expressed gratitude for the resolution and the recognition it brings to the organization and National Board Certified teachers. Brookins acknowledged the vital impact that Board Certified teachers have on children's learning nationwide and appreciated the support from Representatives Bonamici and Letlow.

Representative Letlow and Representative Bonamici's resolution serves as a platform to acknowledge the remarkable work of National Board Certified Teachers and their contribution to the education system. It also demonstrates the commitment of lawmakers to support and promote the growth of these highly skilled educators.

In conclusion, the introduction of this resolution signifies the recognition and appreciation of National Board Certified Teachers for their dedication and impact on students' learning. By designating a "National Board Certified Teacher Week" and encouraging support from administrators, school districts, and states, policymakers are actively promoting the growth and success of these exceptional educators.
