U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) will grant $4,732,022 to the Plaquemines Port Harbor & Terminal District. The funding, sourced from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), aims to enhance port safety.

The allocation will be used to replace two ferry landing barges on the Belle Chasse-Scarsdale evacuation route and support a maintenance barge project.

"Ensuring our ports are safe and efficient is crucial for Plaquemines Parish residents and commuters across our coastal communities," said Dr. Cassidy. "Because I had a seat at the table for the Infrastructure Law, our economy, workforce, and communities are better off."
