U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy has announced the agenda and speaker lineup for the "Louisiana Energy Security Summit: Unleashing American Abundance in a Changing Global Landscape," set to take place on October 16, 2024, in Baton Rouge. The event will be held at the Louisiana State Museum – Capitol Park Museum.
Senator Cassidy, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, is organizing this summit to address energy security issues. The summit will feature discussions on geopolitical challenges faced by U.S. manufacturers abroad. According to Cassidy, adversaries exploit weak environmental and labor standards to gain trade advantages over American companies.
Cassidy has been vocal about integrating national, economic, and energy security into U.S. foreign policy. Alongside Senator Lindsey Graham, he introduced the Foreign Pollution Fee Act aimed at creating fair competition with Chinese manufacturing while boosting American production.
The senator's recent initiatives include editorials discussing China's geopolitical threats and an appearance on Newsmax with Greta Van Susteren to talk about his foreign pollution fee proposal. Last spring, both chambers of the Louisiana legislature passed a resolution urging Congress to develop policies countering competition from China.
In response to domestic energy challenges posed by the Biden administration, Cassidy released an energy policy outline proposing an "Energy Operation Warp Speed" initiative. This plan aims to reduce permitting delays and promote domestic energy and manufacturing growth.
