U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy has announced that the National Telecommunications and Information Administration is set to award Louisiana $12.8 million under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This funding aims to enhance telehealth services and cancer research within the state.

The Louisiana Public Health Institute will receive $5 million to bolster telehealth capabilities, while the Al Copeland Foundation is allocated $7.8 million for cancer research initiatives. Dr. Cassidy emphasized the importance of infrastructure in improving health resources, stating, “Infrastructure is about building the best resources for families living in Louisiana. That includes health infrastructure.”

The Al Copeland Foundation plans to use its portion of the funds to expand access to cancer screening and clinical trials through digital technology at hospitals and clinics that are currently under-resourced. Additionally, this funding will aid LSU’s LCMC Cancer Center located in New Orleans.
