Funding has been expedited for agricultural producers facing economic challenges, as announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The $10 billion in assistance payments come from the Emergency Commodity Assistance Program (ECAP), facilitated by the Farm Service Agency (FSA). This funding was enabled by the FARM Act, sponsored by Representatives Trent Kelly and Julia Letlow.

The ECAP provides a one-time payment to farmers with qualifying commodities experiencing economic hardship. Payments will be distributed at a flat rate per acre of eligible commodities, with USDA beginning disbursements on March 21 for approved applicants.

Producers can apply for relief through local FSA offices, online at fsa.usda.gov/ecap, or via pre-filled applications sent by mail. Detailed information about required documentation and payment calculations is available on the same website.

"This support will help our farmers sustain their operations and prepare for the upcoming harvest, and is targeted toward those at the heart of our food supply who have suffered from conditions which are no fault of their own," stated Congresswoman Letlow. She added that the funding addresses urgent needs within Louisiana's agricultural community and commended USDA's swift action following congressional approval.

Further details can be accessed at fsa.usda.gov/ecap.
