Born in Many on October 14, 1947; known for football
Charles Joiner Jr., born October 14, 1947, in Many, Louisiana, is known for his long and productive career in professional football. He played 18 seasons as a wide receiver in the AFL and NFL, with standout years on the San Diego Chargers. He earned three Pro Bowl selections and was named first-team All-Pro in 1980. Joiner retired with the most career receptions, receiving yards, and games played of any wide receiver at the time. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1996. Joiner played college football at Grambling State University, where he was a three-time All-SWAC selection. After retiring as a player, he coached wide receivers in the NFL for 26 years. His early life in Many and his achievements in football and coaching mark a strong legacy. He is also a member of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and the Black College Football Hall of Fame.
