Brewer to name ‘president for the day’, will honor women’s soccer champion team
Louisiana Christian University welcomed the Class of 2026 to campus this weekend with LCU traditions and some new activities to initiate them into the Wildcat family.
The new crew of Wildcats moved in Friday afternoon and got to unpack and hang out with their Navigators, upperclass leaders who are assigned a group of freshmen for the year to mentor, before the festivities began.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to prepare our graduates at LCU by teaching our incoming class about Servant Leadership,” said Meredith Rennier, director of The Center for Calling & Career.
Saturday, the entire freshmen class gave back to the local community through serving at the food bank and hosting a back-to-school giveaway for community children.
“It is amazing to see how serving others can quickly bring a group of students that barely know one another together,” said Dean of Students Brian Manuel. “To see them working as a unit to help feed the hungry in our area was an awesome sight to see.”
Sunday concludes with the first Awakening service, a weekly Bible Study, at 6:30 p.m. in Guinn Auditorium, followed by Skit Night at 7:45 p.m.
Classes start Monday. Freshmen Convocation will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Guinn Auditorium. President Rick Brewer will honor the Lady Wildcats Soccer team for their 2022 winning season and announce other athletic honors for the year.
In addition, Brewer will crown this year’s President for a Day during the service.
“The University’s opening Convocation & Chapel is always full of excitement and energy,” Brewer said. “I love celebrations, and we’re going to have a fantastic one this Tuesday. A new tradition we started last year is naming a student as ‘President for the Day’ recognizing the impact of position when received yet not earned— a powerful illustration of The Gospel.”
Colleen and Larry Daigle came with their sons for Welcome Weekend.
“After getting the guys all settled into their dorm, we were able to pray over them at the Parents’ Prayer time,” she wrote in a post. “What a blessing to hear a school’s administration prayer for the spiritual growth of all their students.”
Mom Elainna Williams, whose daughter is also a new Wildcat, posted, “I didn’t cry [at move-in]. That’s because I cried all morning. My baby is a freshman in college. To God be the Glory for all He has done.”
Brewer, who is starting his 36th year in Christian Higher Education and his eighth as LCU president, said “The beginning of a new academic year still remains dynamic and full of hope for students. We thank the Lord for His Favor and Blessing on our faculty, staff, coaches, and students as we Prepare Graduates and Transform Lives.”
