Natchitoches, LA, May 2, 2022: The A+ Coalition, an initiative of the Natchitoches Area Chamber of Commerce, awarded the Natchitoches Magnet MATHCOUNTS club with $800 in recognition of their outstanding achievement at the regional and state MATHCOUNTS competitions. At the competitions, students compete in a written test as individuals in two rounds and then one round as a team (Mathbee). The results of these tests are combined to determine the placement of teams. In addition to the testing portion of the competition, select students compete in the Mathbee and Countdown rounds (top 12 individuals). These rounds are similar to “Jeopardy” in that during the Mathbee and Countdown, students answered problems that were shown on a slide show and “buzzed” in with remotes. This is the third year that Magnet MATHCOUNTS has been recognized by the A+ Coalition for their achievements at the regional and state competitions.
MATHCOUNTS provides an opportunity for students to build their math skills to ensure a solid foundation for students’ future success in STEM careers. The A+ Coalition will award a donation to any Natchitoches parish middle school MATHCOUNTS club that competes at the regional competition or qualifies for the state competition.
The A+ Coalition works to bring members of the community together to advance education in Natchitoches Parish.
