U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) has voted against confirming former U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew as the U.S. Ambassador to Israel. Cassidy cited Lew's involvement in the Iran Nuclear Deal as the reason for his opposition, calling it "dangerous."

Cassidy stated, "Jack Lew lied to Congress about the Iran deal. This has been well documented by a report by Rob Portman. How can Congress trust him to do the right thing? If you lose our trust, there is no reason for us to trust you again."

In 2018, former Senator Rob Portman released a report accusing Lew of lying to Congress and the American public regarding Iran's ability to use the U.S. financial system. Lew had previously pledged that Iran would not be able to convert billions of dollars in assets into U.S. dollars. However, the report found that Lew had granted Iran a "license" to access the U.S. financial system, despite his claims. The transactions were only halted because U.S. banks refused to comply with the Obama administration's request.

Furthermore, Cassidy introduced a bill earlier this year to prevent the Biden administration from waiving Congressional sanctions aimed at curbing Iran's nuclear program. The sanctions relief was a part of the Iran Nuclear Deal, which the Biden administration is seeking to revive.

Cassidy's decision to vote against Lew's confirmation reflects his concerns about Lew's role in the Iran Nuclear Deal and his belief that trust has been broken. The senator's opposition highlights the ongoing debate surrounding the deal and its potential implications for U.S.-Israel relations.

While Lew's nomination ultimately moved forward, Cassidy's vote against his confirmation underscores the division and differing perspectives within Congress regarding the Iran Nuclear Deal and its impact on U.S. foreign policy.

In a political landscape where trust and accountability are paramount, Cassidy's stance serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and honesty in government decision-making.
