U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, Cindy Hyde-Smith, and Marsha Blackburn have reintroduced the Stop Supreme Court Leakers Act. The legislation aims to criminalize leaking confidential information from the U.S. Supreme Court.

"Supreme Court leaks should be a criminal offense. Leakers threaten the safety of justices, damage the Court’s reputation, and put lives at risk," stated Senator Cassidy. "They must be held accountable, not celebrated."

Senator Hyde-Smith expressed concerns that Supreme Court justices should perform their duties without the fear of leaks which could influence, embarrass, or threaten them. “Such actions, which we’ve seen in recent years, only undermine public trust and the Supreme Court as an institution. This legislation is needed to establish significant criminal penalties and fines for those who cross that line and betray the Court,” she stated.

Senator Blackburn emphasized the importance of holding accountable those who undermine and intimidate the nation's highest court. "The Stop Supreme Court Leakers Act is a vital piece of legislation, which would ensure that the Court’s work remains free from unwanted outside interference by cracking down on those who leak confidential information," she said.

The proposed legislation stipulates a $10,000 fine and up to a 10-year prison sentence for those who leak Supreme Court information. Furthermore, it aims to enforce the seizure of any profits derived from such leaks, including book deals or television contracts.
