Senator Cassidy recently spoke to the Hammond Rotary Club where he touched on various important issues including national security, flood insurance, and the benefits of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). He emphasized the importance of listening to constituents, stating, "If we all live by the Rotary Four-Way Test, we can address these challenges."
Regarding the ongoing improvements in Hammond, Senator Cassidy highlighted the funding from IIJA for infrastructure projects such as road improvements, better lighting, and updates to the Hammond Northshore Regional Airport. He also mentioned the significant funding he has secured for Tangipahoa Parish to recover from Hurricane Ida.
In his efforts to secure the southern border and combat illegal immigration, Senator Cassidy has introduced legislation to prevent certain states from requiring funding for Medicaid benefits for illegal immigrants and to allow border states to erect temporary barriers on federal land. Mr. David Bradley, President of the Hammond Rotary Club, expressed gratitude for Senator Cassidy's visit, stating, "It was our distinct honor to have Senator Bill Cassidy speak at the Hammond Rotary Club today."
Senator Cassidy also visited Southeastern Louisiana University, where he engaged with various representatives and learned about the university's initiatives in mental health, community involvement, and environmental research. Commenting on his visit, Senator Cassidy remarked, "Among the many good things happening is their work at Turtle Cove, where they’re monitoring Lake Maurepas as carbon capture sequestration is introduced."
President Dr. Will Wainwright of Southeastern Louisiana University expressed appreciation for Senator Cassidy's visit, noting that it provided an opportunity for the senator to learn about the university's progress in areas such as healthcare, mental health, veterans affairs, and environmental monitoring research.
