Regarding the meeting, Dr. Cassidy emphasized the importance of community engagement, stating, “These are people who care about our community.” He highlighted the significant funding allocated for infrastructure projects in Jefferson Parish, such as road and bridge improvements.
Reflecting on his work to reauthorize and reform the National Flood Insurance Program, Cassidy mentioned his efforts to address challenges faced by working families in affording flood insurance under President Biden’s Risk Rating 2.0. He also discussed his involvement in organizing a hearing with the U.S. Senate Banking Committee on this issue.
During his visit, Cassidy engaged in a roundtable discussion in New Orleans with business owners, pastors, and economic development officials, focusing on enhancing trade relations with Latin American countries. Dr. Cassidy emphasized the importance of fair trade for economic prosperity, stating, “Fair trade means more prosperity, which means more jobs and opportunity for our people.”
Senator Cassidy criticized the President for delaying LNG exports that could reduce reliance on Russian and Venezuelan oil among allies. He also advocated for supporting Louisiana’s ports, with a substantial allocation of $9.55 billion in the IIJA for ports nationwide.
The roundtable in New Orleans was organized by Mr. Jose Garcia, who expressed appreciation for Senator Cassidy's efforts in promoting trade and entrepreneurship. Mr. Garcia highlighted the potential for creating job opportunities and shared prosperity in Louisiana and Latin America through collaborative initiatives.
The Rotary Club of Metairie, represented by Ms. Karen Babin and Mr. Rob Folse, welcomed Senator Cassidy's discussion on regional challenges and initiatives. Ms. Babin and Mr. Folse expressed gratitude for the Senator's engagement with the community on pertinent issues.
