U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) has successfully secured $6,000,000.00 in federal funding for the Team Gleason Foundation, a move aimed at enhancing support for Americans living with ALS. This funding will enable the foundation to expand its services to over 4,000 more individuals living with ALS, providing them with specialized equipment, technology, and other essential services.

In response to the funding, Dr. Cassidy praised Steve Gleason, stating, “Steve Gleason is a fighter—not just for himself, but for others.” Gleason, who founded Team Gleason, shared his personal journey with ALS, highlighting the importance of equipment and technology in enhancing the quality of life for those living with the disease. He expressed gratitude for the funding, emphasizing its crucial role in meeting the needs of the ALS community.

Living with ALS comes with significant financial burdens, as much of the necessary technology and equipment is not covered by insurance. This funding will enable Team Gleason to continue providing vital care services to an increasing number of ALS patients, including voice and message banking, advanced mobility devices, and more.

The Team Gleason Foundation stands out as one of the few organizations dedicated to enhancing the independence and quality of life for individuals with ALS. Through partnerships with technology leaders, the foundation strives to empower ALS patients to live purposefully and productively.

Since its inception, Team Gleason has provided over $40 million in care services, technology, and equipment to more than 30,000 individuals with ALS nationwide. Senator Cassidy played a pivotal role in honoring Gleason with the Congressional Gold Medal in 2018, recognizing his remarkable contributions to the ALS community. The medal was presented to Gleason in 2020 at the U.S. Capitol, underscoring his enduring impact and advocacy efforts.

The funding secured by Senator Cassidy underscores the ongoing commitment to supporting ALS patients and advancing the mission of organizations like Team Gleason in providing essential care services and technology to improve the lives of those living with ALS.
