On May 13, 2024, Congresswoman Julia Letlow (LA-05) and Congressman Clay Higgins (LA-03) introduced H.Res. 1210 in Washington D.C., a resolution condemning the border crisis attributed to the Biden administration's policies. The resolution also acknowledges the significant burden this crisis has placed on law enforcement officers.
According to the lawmakers, President Biden’s open border policies have led to dangerous and life-threatening situations for law enforcement and border control personnel. They argue that these risks could be greatly reduced with more stringent border control.
Congresswoman Letlow expressed her admiration for the dedication and courage of law enforcement and border patrol personnel. “The brave men and women that make up our law enforcement and border patrol get up each day to defend our nation’s borders with unwavering dedication and courage,” she said. She further stated that the resolution she introduced alongside Congressman Higgins honors these officers for their commitment to maintaining safety in communities during a time when they have been significantly impacted by what she describes as a lack of border protection due to the Biden administration’s policies.
Congressman Higgins criticized President Biden's approach to immigration laws and border security, claiming it has caused long-term harm to the nation. He said, “Biden’s failure to enforce immigration laws and secure our border has brought generational trauma upon our nation.” The congressman also used his statement to pay tribute to state and local law enforcement officers who have responded to increased criminal activity resulting from the alleged border crisis. He emphasized their devotion, service, and integral role in national security.
