A boil water advisory has been issued for MacArthur Drive in Alexandria, Louisiana, following repairs to a fire hydrant. The advisory was announced by Barrett Dezendorf, Superintendent of Water Operations.
The advisory was necessitated by a loss of water pressure during the repair process, which may have compromised the water quality in the affected area. As a precautionary measure, residents and businesses along MacArthur Drive are advised to boil their water before consuming it or using it for food preparation.
According to Dezendorf, "This boil advisory is to remain in effect until otherwise noted." The specific properties impacted are highlighted on an attached map provided by the Alexandria Water Department.
Consumers are instructed to disinfect their water by boiling it for one full minute after reaching a rolling boil. Alternatives to improve the taste of boiled water include shaking it between clean containers or adding a small pinch of salt per quart of boiled water.
Once the advisory is lifted, residents and businesses should take several steps: run cold-water faucets and drinking fountains for one minute, flush automatic icemakers by discarding three batches of ice, regenerate water softeners through a cycle, and run direct connection water coolers for five minutes.
