Louisiana will receive $206 million in funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Flood Mitigation Assistance program, according to an announcement by U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA). This allocation is the second highest amount given to any state. The funds, part of Cassidy’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), will support 31 projects aimed at elevating flood-prone homes to reduce future damage and minimize flood insurance claims.
“In the aftermath of Hurricane Francine, this funding from the infrastructure law is welcome relief to recover from past disasters and prepare for the future,” said Dr. Cassidy. “By having a seat at the table, Louisiana is punching far above its weight in the amount of money we are receiving to eliminate the risk of flooding.”
