Vernon Parish Education: 37 American Indian students were enrolled in schools in 2023-24 school year

There were 37 American Indian students enrolled in Vernon Parish schools in the 2023-24 school year, the same number as the previous year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

Data showed that Vernon Parish welcomed 8,110 students during the 2023-24 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.5% of the student body to be the least represented ethnicity in the parish.

Among the 18 schools within the parish, Leesville Junior High School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2023-24 school year, with a total of eight students.

Louisiana's educational performance is among the lowest in the nation, according to a WalletHub analysis. The state was ranked 47th overall, based on factors such as class size, student performance, funding, school safety, and teacher qualifications.
