U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy and the entire Louisiana congressional delegation have requested disaster recovery assistance following a terrorist attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. The delegation sent two letters requesting President Biden to approve Governor Jeff Landry’s emergency disaster declaration for the state. They also sought a Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Declaration for Orleans Parish, which would provide SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans to small businesses affected by the incident.

"The French Quarter has long been a cornerstone of cultural identity and economic activity for New Orleans, dating back three centuries. Today, the neighborhood attracts millions of visitors annually and supports countless small businesses and their employees," wrote the delegation. "This violent attack not only caused physical devastation, including the deaths of at least fifteen individuals and dozens of additional injuries, but also disrupted commerce, tourism, and the livelihoods of residents."

The attack has significantly impacted visitors and residents, disrupted essential services, and strained local resources. It occurred during preparations for major events such as the Sugar Bowl and Super Bowl LIX, as well as the annual Carnival season. These events typically draw tourists from across the country and around the world. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has designated Super Bowl LIX as a Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) Level 1 event due to its importance.

The incident resulted in at least 14 fatalities, numerous injuries, and extensive damage to both public and private property. Key infrastructure in downtown New Orleans, including major transportation routes and emergency services, was severely affected.

Louisiana's state authorities have responded comprehensively to this crisis while law enforcement agencies continue investigating further details about the attack. This includes tracking potential additional threats such as Improvised Explosive Devices. Immediate federal support is deemed crucial to protect lives, restore essential services, and prevent further harm.
