U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, Cynthia Lummis, and their Senate Western Caucus colleagues have expressed strong opposition to the Biden-Harris administration's recent decision to restrict American energy production. The administration announced a ban on new domestic offshore oil and gas exploration, which has drawn criticism from these lawmakers.

Dr. Bill Cassidy criticized the move as part of what he describes as President Joe Biden's ongoing "war on American energy and the American energy worker." He argued that this action would result in job losses for Americans seeking better opportunities.

Senator Cynthia Lummis echoed similar sentiments, stating that President Biden has used his power to unfairly target domestic energy producers. She emphasized that the decision could lead to the elimination of tens of thousands of jobs in America.

Senator Ted Cruz also voiced his disapproval, asserting that these policies have harmed the economy and led to job losses in Texas and other states. He anticipates changes once President-elect Trump assumes office.

Senator Steve Daines criticized the administration's decision as an attempt to satisfy radical environmentalists at the expense of American energy production. He is optimistic about reversing this decision with support from the incoming Trump administration.

The year 2024 marked a significant change, being the first year since 1965 without an offshore oil and gas lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico. With less than a month before President-elect Trump takes office, President Biden plans to sign an executive order prohibiting new drilling rights sales in parts of the Outer Continental Shelf.

Previously, Senator Cassidy had raised concerns over efforts by the Biden-Harris administration to halt offshore energy development. In response, he introduced several legislative measures aimed at promoting domestic energy production and ensuring continued oil and gas lease sales.
