U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, representing Louisiana, has released a summary of his legislative achievements for the year 2024. Among the key accomplishments is the passage of the Social Security Fairness Act aimed at repealing the Windfall Elimination Program (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). Additionally, he introduced legislation to provide tax relief for those affected by Hurricanes Francine and Ida and supported measures to address stillbirths and maternal mortality through the Maternal and Child Health Stillbirth Prevention Act.

Cassidy played a significant role in securing over $2.8 billion from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. He also continued advocating for reforms in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), presenting a report highlighting existing challenges within the program. His office completed 1,162 constituent casework requests in 2024, reaching a total of 6,778 since 2021.

“Louisianans sent me to Washington to deliver real solutions. In 2024, I did,” said Dr. Cassidy. “There were major wins across the board, including repealing WEP and GPO and securing $1.35 billion for broadband internet. I look forward to building on this momentum in 2025.”

As part of his duties on the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee as lead Republican member, Cassidy pushed forward several initiatives: enhancing childhood cancer research; addressing hazing on college campuses; ensuring timely financial aid packages for students; improving emergency medical services access for children; reforming federal programs concerning Alzheimer’s and autism; promoting rural health care access; strengthening senior services; providing mental health support for healthcare workers; and supporting caregivers of family members with disabilities or other medical conditions.

In terms of fiscal oversight on the HELP Committee, Cassidy prevented up to $375 million in taxpayer funds from being misallocated as part of Democrats’ pension bailout plan from 2021. He also thwarted efforts by the Biden-Harris administration to close a Medicare call center in Bogalusa, LA—an action that preserved 650 jobs in Louisiana.

Collaborating with fellow members of Louisiana's congressional delegation, Cassidy supported legislation designating Rayville's U.S. Post Office as "Luke Letlow Post Office Building" and another measure incorporating Lafourche Parish into Atchafalaya National Heritage Area boundaries.
