A boil water advisory has been issued for residents along Gay Road in Alexandria, Louisiana. The advisory follows a loss of pressure to a 1 1/4-inch water line, as stated by Barrett Dezendorf, Superintendent of Water Operations.

The drop in water pressure occurred during repair efforts and may have compromised the water quality. As a precautionary measure, the Alexandria Water Department has advised residents in the affected area to boil their water before consumption. This includes using boiled water for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, food preparation, and rinsing foods.

The recommended procedure involves boiling the water for one full minute after it reaches a rolling boil. To improve the taste of boiled water, consumers can shake it by pouring from one clean container to another or add a small pinch of salt per quart.

This advisory will remain in effect until further notice. Residents and businesses are urged to follow these guidelines until they receive official communication that the advisory has been lifted.

Once lifted, affected areas should take additional steps such as running cold-water faucets and drinking fountains for one minute each and flushing automatic icemakers by discarding three batches of ice. Water softeners should be run through a regeneration cycle, and direct connection water coolers should be run for five minutes.

For further information or questions about this advisory, contact Barrett Dezendorf at 318-441-6215 or via email at barrett.dezendorf@cityofalex.com.
