A boil advisory has been issued for England Drive in Alexandria, Louisiana due to repairs being made to a 4-inch water main, according to Luis Saucier, Assistant Superintendent of the Water Department. The repair process resulted in a loss of water pressure, potentially compromising the water in the affected area.
To ensure the safety of consumers, the Alexandria Water Department is recommending that all residents in the advisory area disinfect their water before consuming it or using it for various purposes. Saucier explains, "It is recommended that all consumers in the advisory area disinfect their water before consuming it (including fountain drinks), making ice, brushing teeth, or using it for food preparation or rinsing of foods by boiling the water for one (1) full minute in a clean container. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil."
The boil water advisory is to remain in effect until further notice. The affected area includes all properties along England Drive that are highlighted in the attached map. Residents and businesses in the area are urged to follow the recommended measures until the advisory is lifted.
Once the boil advisory has been lifted, it is advised that businesses and residences in the affected areas take certain steps to ensure the safety of their water supply. These steps include running cold-water faucets and drinking water fountains for one minute, flushing automatic icemakers by making three batches of ice and discarding them, running water softeners through a regeneration cycle, and running water coolers with direct water connections for five minutes.
