SHREVEPORT – Today, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) addressed both the Bossier and Greater Shreveport Chambers of Commerce to discuss the benefits coming to Northwest Louisiana from his Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and other appropriations that he helped secure in the federal budget.

“We are working with business and community leaders to help Northwest Louisiana achieve its fullest potential,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This means using the bipartisan infrastructure bill to help upgrade airports, build passenger rail, and connect the entire region to high-speed broadband. It also means supporting Barksdale AFB in its mission to defend our country. I am committed to this.”

Last December, $500,000 was granted to the state of Louisiana to help build a passenger rail line that connects Shreveport, Ruston, and Monroe to Dallas, which would allow people in North Louisiana to commute for work and other purposes in Texas, and vice versa. Meanwhile, over $4.3 million has been spent to improve both Shreveport airports since last month.

Cassidy has also secured funds in the federal budget to make other improvements in the region, with a special focus on Barksdale Air Force Base. Since December, he has secured millions to add a medical facility for the 307th Bomb Wing, and to plan and design a child development center and a new dormitory via the National Defense Authorization Act. That’s in addition to millions more that help Barksdale fulfill its obligations to the nation’s defense.

At both stops, Cassidy met business and community leaders and shared ideas on how they can keep making Northwest Louisiana a better place for families to live and work. He was greeted by executives at both chambers upon arrival.

“It was an honor to host U.S. Senator Cassidy to a sold-out crowd in Bossier City, Louisiana,” said Ms. Lisa Johnson, President and CEO of the Bossier Chamber of Commerce. “We understand the importance of bringing our elected leaders and business community together to discuss federal issues as they relate to Northwest Louisiana.”

“We are always grateful for the time Senator Cassidy takes to engage with the Shreveport business community,” said Dr. Timothy Magner, President of the Greater Shreveport Chamber of Commerce. “We were able to discuss a range of issues important to our region, from infrastructure spending to energy and education. His important work in those areas and his continued efforts support the needs of Northwest Louisiana are greatly appreciated.”
