U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy visited Acadia Parish and Lafayette, highlighting infrastructure improvements and community support initiatives. In Rayne, he addressed the Rotary Clubs of Crowley and Rayne and hosted a rural community funding summit to discuss opportunities under his Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).
“Part of my goal in writing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill was to help growing communities in Acadiana prevent flooding, improve highways, fix water and sewage problems, and connect their towns to high-speed broadband,” said Dr. Cassidy. He emphasized collaboration with local leaders to secure resources for these needs.
Since the IIJA's passage in August 2021, significant funds have been allocated for projects in Acadia Parish. This includes over $54.8 million for slab repair on the I-10: Jeff Dav PI-I-49 project, more than $349,000 for landslide perimeter fencing at Le Gros Memorial Airport in Crowley, and over $928,000 for flood mitigation elevations.
Local leaders expressed appreciation for Cassidy's efforts. “We appreciate Senator Cassidy visiting us today," said Katie Chiasson from the Crowley City Council. Chuck Robichaux, mayor of Rayne, highlighted the importance of federal support for infrastructure improvements.
Cassidy also toured Catholic Charities of Acadiana in Lafayette, learning about their disaster relief efforts and support services for the homeless. “Catholic Charities in Lafayette helps the homeless and the addicted while fulfilling the mission of Christ to care for the less fortunate,” stated Dr. Cassidy.
Cassidy's visit underscores his commitment to supporting both infrastructure development and community service initiatives in Louisiana.
