U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy and Steve Daines, along with 26 Republican colleagues, have introduced a bill aimed at preventing the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the U.S. Forest Service from banning lead ammunition or tackle on public lands unless supported by scientific evidence.
Dr. Cassidy emphasized Louisiana's reputation as "Sportsman’s Paradise," stating that federal officials unfamiliar with hunting or fishing should not dictate outdoor activities in the state. Senator Daines highlighted the importance of outdoor activities in Montana, asserting that decisions affecting recreation should be based on science rather than anti-hunting sentiments.
The bill is backed by several senators including John Thune, Jerry Moran, Dan Sullivan, Thom Tillis, Mike Crapo, Jim Risch, Cynthia Lummis, John Barrasso, Rick Scott, James Lankford, Tommy Tuberville, Mike Lee, John Boozman, Roger Marshall, Marsha Blackburn, Roger Wicker, Deb Fischer, Tim Sheehy, Mike Rounds, Katie Britt, Kevin Cramer, Tom Cotton, Jim Justice, Bill Hagerty, John Hoeven and Cindy Hyde-Smith.
