The only school district in Vernon Parish suffered declining enrollment in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

There were 7,937 students in the halls of Vernon Parish School District schools, 1.6% lower than the year before.

Enrollment in Vernon Parish was steady compared to the state’s trend of decreasing enrollment.

Out of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 51.1% of them were boys, and 48.9% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 67.9% of the Vernon Parish School Districts total enrollment.

Vernon Parish School District has a main office in Leesville and is the only school district within Vernon Parish.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 18 students in Louisiana, which is worse than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students.

Only 22% of Louisiana’s teachers are Black or Latino, compared to about 48% of the state's K–12 students who identify as either race.
