Cassidy Announces $6.5 Million for Emergency Preparedness

WASHINGTON– U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) announced today that Louisiana will receive $6,516,901.30 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for flood mitigation and emergency preparedness.

"Preparing for the next storm is always top of mind, but especially so in the middle of hurricane season," said Dr. Cassidy. "This funding lowers Louisiana's risk of flooding and makes our communities more resilient moving forward."

The grant will be allocated as follows:

  • Calcasieu Parish: $3,362,076.00
  • This grant will provide federal funding for the mitigation of 16 flood-prone residential properties.

  • Calcasieu Parish: $186,782.00
  • This grant will provide federal funding for management costs associated with the mitigation of 16 flood-prone structures located within the Special Flood Hazard Area.

  • State of Louisiana Hazard Mitigation Plan: $1,599,999.30
  • This grant will provide federal funding for the update of the State of Louisiana Hazard Mitigation Plan.

  • Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness: $1,368,044.00
  • This grant will provide federal funding for managing Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) applications and projects submitted to the State through the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

With these funds, Louisiana aims to enhance its emergency preparedness capabilities and reduce the impact of future flooding incidents.
