The city of Alexandria is actively responding to record rainfall, which has led to concerns about potential flooding. Officials have emphasized the importance of remaining vigilant during this significant weather event.

Authorities explained that heavy rain falling on hard surfaces can cause water to accumulate and rise until the rain subsides. Areas previously affected by flooding in past significant rain events are expected to experience similar issues. The city has been monitoring the situation and ensuring all pumps are operational, with preparations beginning before the current weather conditions.

Residents are advised to remove debris from catch basins if it is safe to do so. Additionally, any unusual water accumulation in areas not typically prone to flooding should be reported to the city immediately.

In response to the situation, "The Mayor authorized an all-hands program including unrestricted overtime to combat any threats we face."
