Reps. Julia Letlow and Lisa Blunt Rochester have introduced a bipartisan resolution in the United States Congress to designate October as "World Menopause Awareness Month" and October 18th as "World Menopause Day." The resolution aims to raise awareness about menopause, a natural condition experienced by millions of women worldwide, and improve access to care during this phase of life.

Congresswoman Julia Letlow emphasizes the importance of awareness in women's healthcare decisions, stating, "Oftentimes very little guidance is available to women who experience menopause symptoms." She further adds, "I’m proud to introduce this bipartisan legislation with Rep. Rochester to improve awareness so that women have a much better understanding of what healthcare options and treatments are available to them."

Congresswoman Lisa Blunt Rochester highlights the challenges faced by women going through menopause, stating, "Millions of women throughout the United States and throughout the world going through menopause experience this natural, yet often challenging, phase of life without the information or support they need." She emphasizes the need for awareness and resources to ensure that women do not suffer in silence during this phase.

The resolution aims to achieve several objectives, including increasing global awareness of menopause by designating October as "World Menopause Awareness Month." It also recognizes the impact of menopause on women's health and economic development in the United States. The resolution further supports training on menopause and menopause treatments for health workers and aims to increase access to health information and services that promote healthy aging before, during, and after menopause.

Additionally, the resolution encourages the Secretaries of Health and Human Services, Defense, and Veterans Affairs to conduct research on menopause and treatments, provide information to women and healthcare providers, and update existing resources to help women live with menopause. The resolution also requests the transmission of an enrolled copy to the mentioned Secretaries.

This bipartisan resolution introduced by Reps. Letlow and Blunt Rochester underscores the importance of raising awareness about menopause and improving access to care for women during this phase of life. By recognizing October as "World Menopause Awareness Month," this resolution aims to empower women with the knowledge and resources they need to navigate menopause and ensure a better quality of life.
