WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, has released a statement and video ahead of Veterans Day, expressing his gratitude and appreciation for the men and women who have served in the armed forces.
In his message, Dr. Cassidy highlights the importance of honoring and thanking veterans on Veterans Day. He states, “Those who wore the uniform with honor and dignity are the best of the United States and deserve the best of the United States.”
As a member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Dr. Cassidy has been a strong advocate for veterans, consistently working to ensure they receive the support and benefits they have earned through their service to America. He expresses his privilege and honor to advocate for veterans and extends his gratitude to all veterans who have traveled across the world to preserve freedom at home.
Dr. Cassidy assures veterans that even though they have hung up their boots, they will always have the gratitude and support of the American people. He acknowledges that the United States is the home of the free because of the brave.
In addition to his message, Dr. Cassidy's actions speak louder than words. He has been actively involved in various initiatives to support veterans. Recently, he joined Senator Angus King in urging the Department of Labor to remove barriers for veterans seeking job opportunities. They requested that transitioning service members be categorized as eligible for career services programs funded by Jobs for Veterans State Grants.
Dr. Cassidy has also called on the National Archives of the United States to expedite the process of providing veterans with their essential military records. These records are crucial for accessing government benefits and services, and any delays can hinder veterans' access to the support they need.
Furthermore, Dr. Cassidy has been at the forefront of addressing the veteran suicide crisis. Earlier this year, the Senate passed his resolution to establish "Vets Get Outside Day." This initiative encourages veterans battling mental health challenges to spend time outside as part of an effort to combat mental illness.
In 2022, the Senate unanimously passed Cassidy's Solid Start Act, which strengthens the Department of Veterans Affairs' Solid Start program. This program ensures that every veteran is contacted three times by phone in the first year after leaving active duty, connecting them with VA programs and benefits, including mental health resources.
As Veterans Day approaches, Senator Bill Cassidy's message serves as a reminder to the American people to express their gratitude and support for the brave men and women who have served in the armed forces.
