U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) has announced that the Sewerage District No.1 of Iberia Parish will receive a significant investment of $3.1 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce for wastewater infrastructure. This funding will contribute to the ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure in the parish, which already includes the recent $1.1 billion investment by First Solar in an American energy manufacturing plant.

The investment by First Solar, which was announced in August, is expected to create 700 new jobs with an annual payroll of at least $40 million. Senator Cassidy emphasized the importance of these infrastructure investments in building a stronger economy for the future, stating, "We are building an economy for 2050 in Louisiana."

The $3.1 million funding for wastewater infrastructure in Iberia Parish will have a significant impact on the local community. It will support the design and construction of a new sewer lift station and force main line, which will facilitate the growth at the Progress Point Industrial Park and UL Lafayette's New Iberia Research Center.

The funding from the U.S. Department of Commerce is part of the Economic Development Administration (EDA) investment, which will be matched with $875,000 in local funds. This collaboration between federal and local authorities demonstrates a commitment to improving the quality of life for the residents of Iberia Parish.

Senator Cassidy highlighted the benefits of this investment, stating, "This investment in wastewater infrastructure in Iberia Parish will support more business and job opportunities and better the quality of life for families in our community."

The infrastructure investments in Iberia Parish, both the previous investment by First Solar and this recent funding for wastewater infrastructure, are crucial steps towards developing a more robust and resilient economic landscape for the future. They will not only create new job opportunities but also enhance the overall quality of life for the residents of Iberia Parish.

By focusing on improving infrastructure, Senator Cassidy and the authorities involved are laying the foundation for long-term economic growth and prosperity in the region. The collaboration between federal and local entities demonstrates a commitment to investing in the future and building a stronger community for the residents of Iberia Parish.
