U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy has expressed his support for President Trump's recent executive order establishing a sovereign wealth fund. Cassidy sees this development as an opportunity to bolster Social Security.

“Let’s use it to save Social Security!” said Dr. Cassidy. “I have been advocating for years to create a new fund—separate from the Social Security Trust Fund—that invests in the growth of the American economy. President Trump’s new sovereign wealth fund is an excellent step in that direction. We must keep the trust of the American people. Americans don’t want this being used on just anything. Social Security is a dedicated process that can free money for other priorities and preserve seniors’ benefits.”

Cassidy has been active in efforts to protect Social Security, leading a bipartisan group focused on its preservation. In 2023, he initiated discussions with visitors at Capitol Hill about potential benefit cuts and introduced his "Big Idea" for reform.

In December, Cassidy pushed for and achieved a vote on the Social Security Fairness Act, which was subsequently signed into law. He also advocated for repealing WEP and GPO during Senate floor speeches.

Earlier last year, Cassidy questioned U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen regarding President Biden's plan for Social Security, highlighting Yellen's admission that there was no current plan in place.

Cassidy has shared his ideas on Social Security reform through various platforms including public forums with AARP, discussions with the Bipartisan Policy Committee, and op-eds published in several major outlets like Washington Examiner and Wall Street Journal.
